La Dolce Vita

Veneto

A trip to Italy would not be complete without some time in Veneto to see the spectacular peaks of the Dolomites of Cadore, and to fill your romantic dreams in the lagoons of Venice.

A gondola or vaporetto ride down the Grand Canal is one way to explore Venice with its Byzantine influences on display in St Mark's Basilica and Piazza san Marco.  Stroll down the narrow streets alongside the canals and over the bridges to the Academy Galleries, G. Franchetti Gallery, Doge's Palace and the Guggenheim.  If you are in Venice in late January you may be able to experience the Venice Carnivale, where you will see the variety of masks for which Venice is known.  Otherwise plan a visit for September to coincide with the Venice Historical Regatta and witness a procession of 16th Century style boats.

Another city in Veneto to explore is Verona.  Here you can see important Roman traces in the Arena of Verona.  Plan ahead and experience open air opera at the Arena.
