La Dolce Vita

This town is rich in water, fashion and history..maybe this is where an Italian holiday should begin!!

Milan, the region's capital, is synonymous for fashion and is the place to purchase a designer outfit or two to ensure you look the part on your Italian holiday.  A wander down Via della Spiga is a must where you can see the shops of the big fashion labels.  Via Manzoni, Via Borgospesso and Via Santo Spirito are the outer limits of the famous Fashion Quadrilatero.

Finish your shopping adventure at The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.  From there wander across the road to the Cathedral of Milan - Duomo di Milano - an amazing example of Gothic architecture.  The Sforza Castle, Basilica Sant'Ambrogio and Basilica di San Lorenzo Maggiore should form part of the "must see" list.  At the church Santa Maria delle Grazie you can see Leonardo da Vinci painting "The Last Supper" in the refectory, one of the most famous works of art ever painted.

A visit to Lombardia is not complete without a visit to the lakes. Hire an Alfa Romeo and take a drive out of the city to Varese and the lakes of Varese and Lago Maggiore, or to Lago di Como.  Visit the Alfa Romeo museum on your way -  you are in its home town after all.
